Mr. Irving is a true professional. He delivers a high quality product and thoroughly explains the process and any follow on actions. He is respectful of the property and he was just as excited about the outcome of the work as I was. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his work. I recommend Shelterwood Solutions to my forest land clients who want to add value to their property and go beyond a cookie cutter forest management approach. From pre-commercial thinning that helps improve their timber stands to wildlife habitat improvements, SWS has helped my clients meet their property ownership goals.

David Irving of Shelterwood was referred to me about 10 years ago. I hired him to develop a forest management plan that would restore my 130 acre wood lot. With careful family discussions with David, the forest management plan completed, and execution have been extraordinary. We used 100% of the plan and worked with NCRS and personal resources to bring wildlife and family use back into enjoyment. The family, friends, and visitors are all amazed at how well everything turned out! All the wildlife has return, all the birds and insects have returned, fields were made, pre commercial thinning over 30 acres was completed, woodcock habitat created, a good trail system established, an approved boat ramp made, 3 wildlife fields with clover planted, and most importantly and well cared for wood lot for my families future is now in excellent health. We have at least 8 different Warblers, birds of prey, and numerous large animals too. We are more than pleased!

As a long time land owner that had never hired a forester, I did not know what to expect.  From the very beginning David was very professional and walked me through the entire process. The incredibly detailed forest management plans he prepared are very educational and important for improving my lands for future generations. David also was ready to assist with applying for Forestry Service and USDA grants to help with future projects that I did not know even existed. I cannot say enough good things about David Irving/Shelterwood. Do yourself and your land a favor and have David prepare a forestry management plan today!!

Working with David on our properties for the past five plus years has been not only an education on how to reach the full potential of almost 300 acres but a pleasure as well. With David’s expertise, we not only have updated forest management plans but have been able to secure resources through NRCS to further improve our properties. David is also extremely knowledgeable on wildlife habitat planning. We are seeing the results in just a few short years. I feel he has treated our property like his own!

I enjoy teaming up with Dave Irving at Shelterwood Solutions to implement the invasive plant control strategies necessary to a successful Forest management plan.

Ronald Lemin, RCL Services LLC, Bangor, Maine

I started working with David Irving of Shelterwood Forest Solutions in 2015, when I harvested a 20 acre woodlot for one of his clients. Since that time I have harvested a number of blocks for Dave. He is thoroughly knowledgeable in silviculture and the science of forestry, and we confer routinely on prescriptions and harvest approach. I can say without reservation that Dave has a great understanding of the balance between landowner-friendly stumpage rates and what it takes to properly and adequately compensate the logger. I routinely cut private lots in cases where the landowner approaches me, but I intentionally reserve time in my schedule to work on harvest blocks with Dave.
